    ASTM A193/A193M Grade B6 Stud Bolts – UNS S41000

Heat-treated Type 410 martensitic stainless steel stud bolts offering high strength and moderate corrosion resistance for general-purpose high-pressure bolting.

ASTM A193/A193M Grade B6 Stud Bolts are manufactured from UNS S41000 Type 410 martensitic stainless steel, a hardenable 12% chromium alloy that through appropriate quench-and-temper heat treatment achieves high tensile and yield strength with good hardness, making it suitable for structural and pressure bolting applications requiring greater mechanical performance than austenitic stainless grades can offer in the annealed condition. The 12% chromium content provides moderate corrosion resistance in mildly corrosive environments, including atmospheric conditions, water, mild acids, and many industrial gases, while the martensitic structure delivers the toughness and strength needed for bolting in flanged pressure equipment. ASTM A193 specifies hardness limits for Grade B6 to prevent susceptibility to hydrogen embrittlement and stress corrosion cracking in services where these failure mechanisms are a concern. These stud bolts are used across a broad range of industries including oil and gas processing, power generation, water treatment, pulp and paper, and general industrial equipment where moderate corrosion resistance combined with high mechanical performance is a principal specification requirement.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is ASTM A193 Grade B6?
ASTM A193 Grade B6 is a bolting material covering 13% Cr martensitic (UNS S41000). Used in high-temperature, high-pressure flange, pressure-vessel and heat-exchanger bolting service per ASTM A193/A193M.
What is the UNS designation for ASTM A193 Grade B6?
The UNS designation for ASTM A193 Grade B6 is UNS S41000. This corresponds to 13% Cr martensitic. The UNS code is universal across ASTM, ASME (SA-193), PED 2014/68/EU and NORSOK material specifications.
What is the service envelope for Grade B6?
Grade B6 (13% Cr martensitic) is used up to ~480 °C (900 °F) in moderately corrosive service. The 13% Cr provides general atmospheric corrosion resistance; it is not chloride-resistant.
